Metropolitan Police Crime Mapping

How safe is your area?

As part of his crime manifesto, Mayor Boris Johnson introduced the idea of crime mapping for the London area. Working closely with the Metropolitan Police he wanted the public to have “a real sense of the true level of crime in our neighbourhoods... so that we can bring pressure on the police, and even on me as mayor, to tackle the problem.”

The Met Police Crime Mapping tool was launched in August 2008 and uses Google Maps to display London crime figures. It provides a clear visual representation of complex data and also adjusts depending on how far you've zoomed in. It's a great example of using a clean and simple interface to make otherwise dull information accessible.
